Paul offers to host a small gathering to mark Krista and Leo’s engagement, discreetly ensuring the party can only happen while Sebastian will be at work. The party starts well, but when Seb reaches out for help with a special dish he’s trying to cook Krista, she ducks out to help him.
Unfortunately, the two get into a flap in the kitchen and she accidentally slams the fridge door into his injured shoulder. Seb is in pain and the cafe is growing increasingly busy, so she’s forced to stick around to help him get it under control.
By the time Krista gets back to Leo, their guests are leaving. Leo tries to be understanding, but privately he’s still hurt she missed their engagement party for Seb.
Meanwhile, Nell is about to arrive to move in with Terese, who breaks the news of her reunion with Paul. It’s clear Nell has reservations even though she attempts to put on a happy face.
At Leo’s party, Paul’s pleased with Nell’s seemingly positive attitude toward him but Terese is more watchful, hoping all is as it appears. When Nell witnesses a moment of affection between Terese and Paul, she becomes emotional, bailing on the party.
Realising she’s gone, Terese seeks her out and Nell finally admits her true feelings – she’s still grieving the loss of the family they used to have and is worried Paul isn’t a good person. Terese tells Paul he needs to stay away from the house for a little while, for Nell’s sake. Paul is left utterly thrown.
Elsewhere, Leo and Krista invite Aaron to their engagement, nudging him to perhaps bring Rhett as his plus one. Aaron, Isla and Rhett meet before the party, and Rhett becomes unexpectedly choked up over seeing Aaron and Isla interact. Aaron doesn’t probe, but when it happens again at the party, Rhett admits the reason for his emotions – he has a daughter, too, though he hasn’t seen her for a long time.
Aaron is a little thrown by the revelation, so Rhett explains how he had a daughter years ago but due to her mother’s wishes he hasn’t been able to see her since. Seeing Aaron with Isla has really brought home how much he’s missing out on, though he knows his daughter is loved and safe with her mother. Sympathetic, Aaron surprises himself by kissing Rhett.
