Claire Sweeney, a beloved figure from Coronation Street, has been replaced in The Good Ship Murder. The actress, who played Beverley Carnell in the Channel 5 series, which is back for its second season, has had her role taken over by fellow soap star Ross Adams due to her commitments at the ITV soap.

Ross Adams, known for his role in Hollyoaks, has stepped into the shoes of Colin Smallwood, taking over from Beverley as the entertainment director in the series. He has flown out to Malta to film scenes for the third season of the popular show.

Speaking about Claire’s reaction to him taking over her role, Ross said: “Claire has been absolutely amazing, I did worry that I would be stepping on her toes, but she’s been brilliant.”

He shared that he and Claire met when he arrived in Malta, where she was filming The Good Ship Murder Christmas special.

Describing the Corrie star as “warm” and “friendly”, Ross revealed that they have even made plans to meet up for dinner in the future, reports Lancs Live.

The third series of The Good Ship Murder is set to start filming in the spring. Most of the filming takes place in Malta, with the cast also embarking on a three-week cruise across the Mediterranean to shoot scenes.

Ross is best known for his role as Scott Drinkwell in Hollyoaks, a role he left last year after a decade-long stint on the Channel 4 soap. He confessed that he felt he left Hollyoaks at the “worst time” as he began looking for new work, but fortunately landed his dream role on The Good Ship Murder.

Ross revealed to The Sun: “I’d been there for nearly ten years, and I loved it, I loved the people there. I remember coming home and just thinking, am I doing the right thing? It was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve ever had to do but now I feel it was the right thing for me, and that’s nothing against Hollyoaks or soap, I was just ready to spread my wings.

“And I love that Good Ship is bringing the sunshine in dreary January! I’m based in Manchester and it’s grey, and drizzling with rain.”
