The Lights Up event gets under way with Holly enjoying the fruits of her labour, oblivious to the deadly fate Yaz has waiting in store for her. Yaz prepares to leave town, but not before podcaster Blaze urges her to listen to the latest episode of Crimesborough, which she insists adds so much extra perspective to the story of what happened in the Outback.
Nicolette visits Yaz’s hotel room, which she finds trashed and Yaz’s belongings gone. She also discovers a business card for a criminal lawyer. When she shows it to Krista, she learns this is the lawyer for Heath’s family, who do not believe he was a murderer. Jigsaw pieces start to come together for Nicolette.
Yaz finally listens to the new podcast, where she hears testimonies from Mackenzie, Haz, Toadie and Melanie, who help her finally see that she read the situation completely wrong. Forced to face her grave error, she rushes back to try to stop Holly from being electrocuted.
However, Nicolette demanding answers gets in her way and stops her from reaching… Max, who has subbed in for Holly while she troubleshoots an issue with the Lost Loves display at Eirini Rising. Max suffers severe burns to his hands due to the electric shock and he’s left unconscious.
Seeing there is nothing she can do now, Yaz flees once again, but Nicolette follows her to the airport to demand an explanation. Realising Nicolette has figured out way too much, Yaz finally comes clean about her relationship to Heath and her terrible grief and quest for understanding – leading ultimately to an overwhelmed snap mistake.
As the tale comes tumbling out, Holly and others finally make the connection between Yaz and Heath too as some of her personal photos have ended up in the Lost Loves display.
As Holly reels, trying to make sense of this, Yaz tells Nicolette she’s ready to hand herself in. But Nicolette makes a phone call and discovers Max will eventually make a recovery, leading her to a spur of the moment decision: she tells Yaz to get on the plane and go. What will a surprised Yaz decide?
