Ryan Sutter Shares How He & Wife Trista Triumphed Over Breakup

Ryan Sutter shared that his wife Trista broke up with him once years ago, but the couple’s love got them through it.

Ryan Sutter made the comments on the February 3 episode of the Amy & T.J. podcast. He appeared on the podcast with his wife.

He is famously married to former “Bachelorette” Trista Sutter and their long-standing marriage is considered an ideal in Bachelor Nation.

“If it has been close, it’s been just her breaking up with me probably years ago,” Ryan said on the podcast. “But, I think I went through a little bit of a rough period of just trying to figure out kind of where I was in life, and I think that was difficult on her.”

However, Ryan explained how the couple persevered.

Ryan Sutter says love got the couple through.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a time where our love for each other has wavered,” Ryan stressed in the podcast interview.

Trista shared, “That was definitely something that played into my decision because I didn’t want to live without Ryan. I felt like my life would not be as happy without him.”

“But at that point … I was a little more selfish than she wanted to have someone be if she was gonna spend the rest of her life with them,” he explained. “So, those are probably our hardest conversations and…I just had to wake up and grow up a little bit and I feel like I did. I mean we’re still here, but that’s probably the closest.”

“And I don’t know that we were that close, but, definitely, I think there are some thoughts of, like, on her end, is this who I wanna be with forever?” he added on the podcast. “And thank god, she decided it was.”

The Couple Also Opened Up About Their Love Life

The Sutters also shared details about their love life.

“Now versus then? Well, I mean, 21 years later and two teenagers who walk in your room looking for q-tips or whatever, you know, without knocking. It is, a bit more…” Trista acknowledged. Ryan added, “It’s less spontaneous.”

Added Ryan, “I’m the male side of the relationship, so I’m always trying to get a little bit more out of that end of things. But I don’t feel like I can complain.”

Continued Ryan: “I think that we do a really good job,” he explained. “And honestly, I think that’s a part of why we’ve lasted so long. We’ve maintained that part of our life, despite having kids or everything else.”
