Sad News: Iconic TV Show Neighbours Is Cancelled Forever
After nearly 40 years on air, the iconic Australian television series Neighbours will officially end in December 2025. This decision comes after Amazon, which saved the show in 2023, decided to withdraw financial support.
First premiering in 1985, Neighbours quickly became a staple of Australian and international television. The show not only captivated audiences with its compelling stories set in the fictional suburb of Erinsborough but also served as a launchpad for many renowned stars, including Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie, and Jason Donovan.
After its initial cancellation in 2022 due to Channel 5 pulling its funding, Neighbours was revived by Amazon Freevee in 2023, giving millions of fans renewed hope. However, just two years later, the show faces cancellation once again as Amazon steps away.
Executive producer Jason Herbison shared his thoughts:
“Audiences around the world have embraced Neighbours for nearly four decades, and we are incredibly proud of its recent success, including consistently ranking in the UK’s Top 10 and receiving its first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Series in 2024.”
Although the show is ending, Herbison expressed gratitude towards Amazon MGM Studios for bringing Neighbours to a global audience and hinted at the possibility of more stories about the Ramsay Street residents in the future.
Australia’s Channel 10 also expressed regret over the cancellation:
“They have been our neighbours for almost 40 years, and we are incredibly sad to say goodbye. We thank everyone who has contributed to this incredible Australian story over the years.”
The end of Neighbours marks the conclusion of an important chapter in Australian television history, leaving behind a lasting legacy and cherished memories for generations of viewers.
