Hollyoaks confirms unexpected diagnosis as Lucas is rushed to hospital

Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) is rushed to hospital in Hollyoaks next week after he’s found unresponsive at the flat by Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey).
The teen, as viewers know, has stayed out of trouble since his drug ordeal last month, knuckling down and getting on with his work at The Hutch following his split from Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass).
Just weeks on from their reunion, Lucas declared the relationship over as Dillon – who has been targeted and groomed by Rex – abandoned him outside the hospital when he suffered a drugs overdose.
Despite their separation, however, Lucas has largely kept an eye on Dillon, knowing Rex is to blame for his boyfriend getting involved in a world of criminality.
But the focus shifts back to Lucas next week as things take an upsetting turn, with the teen found unresponsive by Rex.
Lucas had been babysitting nephew James previously and Rex is spooked when he hears the baby’s cries, arriving home to see Lucas out cold on the floor.
Horrified, he summons an ambulance.
The gangster reckons that Grace Black (Tamara Wall), who is running the child exploitation operation, had a role to play in what transpired but Grace assures him that Lucas’ hospitalisation had nothing to do with her.
Ste, meanwhile, is left chilled to the bone when he receives a call informing him that his son is in hospital and, without wasting a second, he swoops into action, with Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) taking the wheel of the car.

But before they can make tracks, Sienna is horrified to discover that she can’t feel her legs. The florist is fully aware that she’s been poisoned and upcoming scenes see her speculate that someone close to her is responsible.
A crash ensues and Martha (Sherrie Hewson) and Jez (Jeremy Sheffield) race to the hospital. Ste, meanwhile, makes his way to Lucas’ bedside, urging doctors to provide answers as to what’s happened to his beloved boy.

A shock diagnosis is subsequently delivered. The question is: just who has been diagnosed? And what is the diagnosis?
The Hollyoaks Spring Trailer previewed the scenes in question, with Ste urging Lucas to get the surgery he needs in order to ‘get better’.
Oscar Curtis previously teased a ‘scary’ situation for Lucas, telling Metro: ‘There is going to be a lot, I’ll say that! And also, it’s going to get scary… and intense and emotional – but not exactly in a break-up sense.
‘I think it’s going to get emotional in a ‘life and death situation’ sense.’
