Neighbours star Rebekah Elmaloglou urges fans to help save the beloved soap: “Keep speaking up!”
Rebekah Elmaloglou, who plays Terese Willis in the iconic series “Neighbours,” has made a heartfelt plea to fans amid growing uncertainty about the show’s future.
During the final stop of the Neighbours 40th Anniversary Tour at the Bridgewater Hall theatre in Manchester on Tuesday (February 18), Rebekah joined co-stars Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka) and Majella Davis (Krista Sinclair) to thank audiences for their continued support in helping save the show after its 2022 cancellation by Channel 5.
With passion in her voice, Rebekah addressed the crowd:
“Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep emailing Amazon and let them know how much you love the show. They hold the contracts now – go directly to the source!”
She added:
“We still don’t know what’s happening with Neighbours later this year. No one is telling us anything, and it’s very unsettling.”
✦ Concerns grow over an uncertain future
Although Amazon famously saved Neighbours in late 2022 – just four months after its star-studded finale on Channel 5 – the show was only recommissioned on a two-year deal to help grow Amazon’s Freevee platform. But now that Freevee is being phased out, the show’s future remains up in the air.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Rebekah admitted:
“We don’t know if we’re being renewed – we haven’t been told anything. It would be such a shame to bring the show back just to take it away again.”
She also lightheartedly shared her personal frustration:
“I keep asking Jason [executive producer Jason Herbison], ‘I want to buy a house – what can you tell me?’ And he just says, ‘I can’t tell you anything!’”
✦ Cast unite: “We can’t put fans through this again!”
Tim Kano echoed the sentiment, saying:
“We can’t put the fans through this again. At every meet and greet during the tour, they told us how devastated they were when the show ended. They were literally crying.”
Majella Davis added emotionally:
“I think I’d be more heartbroken for them than for us.”
✦ Take action!
Rebekah’s heartfelt message is now sparking a wave of fan activity across social media. Supporters are sharing hashtags, sending emails, and even writing physical letters to Amazon in hopes of making their voices heard.
Could lightning strike twice?
If Neighbours has proven anything over the years, it’s that when fans come together, miracles can happen.
