Rebekah Elmaloglou Shares She Wants to End Terese’s Storyline Here: ‘It Feels Like the Right Time’
In a heartfelt and revealing interview, Neighbours veteran Rebekah Elmaloglou has spoken out about her desire to bring the character of Terese Willis to a close — and why now feels like the right moment to say goodbye.
Having played the iconic role for over a decade, Elmaloglou became one of the most recognisable faces on Ramsay Street. But after a recent series of intense and emotionally charged storylines, including the dramatic downfall of Terese’s marriage to Paul, her difficult leadership at Eirini Rising, and the shocking incidents involving Chelsea and baby Thomas, the actress admits she’s ready to close this chapter.
“There’s a sense of completion,” Rebekah shared. “Terese has been through so much — love, loss, power struggles, addiction, redemption. As an actor, it’s been a gift. But as a person, I feel like I’ve told her story. It’s time.”
Rebekah also acknowledged the recent resurgence in popularity of Neighbours following its revival on Amazon Freevee, noting that while the show has opened up exciting new possibilities for younger characters, Terese’s arc has reached a natural end.
“I don’t want to keep going just for the sake of it. I want her exit to mean something,” she explained. “Whether it’s her walking away from Ramsay Street for a fresh start, or something more dramatic — I trust the writers to give her the ending she deserves.”
Fans have had mixed reactions to the news. Many have expressed sadness at the thought of losing one of the show’s most compelling and flawed characters, while others respect Rebekah’s decision to move on.
Online, one viewer wrote: “No one does a breakdown like Terese. She’s fierce and fragile at the same time. I’ll miss her so much.”
As for what’s next, Rebekah hinted she’s open to new creative ventures, both in Australia and abroad. “Acting is still my passion, but I’m also interested in writing and mentoring. I’ve grown a lot in this industry and want to explore what else is out there.”
While there’s no official word from the showrunners yet on how Terese will depart, it’s clear that her exit — if it comes — will mark the end of an era.
Whether she leaves in peace or amid yet another storm remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: Ramsay Street won’t be the same without Terese Willis.
