Hot news: Hollyoaks star announces return after being axed
Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks star Charlie Clapham has addressed whether his character Freddie Roscoe will return to the soap.
Freddie was recently forced out of the village by Warren Fox, who made him fake his own suicide to keep him away from Mercedes McQueen. His sudden exit devastated his fiancée Mercedes, his daughter Lexi and his brothers Robbie and Darren.
However, viewers know that Freddie isn’t actually dead, and Clapham hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a comeback.
Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy, the actor said he believes there’s more to Freddie’s story, which could be revisited in the future.
“Freddie is taking a break off-screen. It’s been another great experience on the show. But I don’t think the story’s over,” he explained.
“I’m too long in the tooth now to think that I’m never going to be back here. But it’s been amazing to catch up with so many people that I grew up with, so I’ve had the time of my life, yeah.”
Clapham also shared that he “stayed longer than anticipated” during his latest stint on the show, as he was originally in talks to appear for a year.
“But, obviously, as you know, it’s been one of the most volatile years in the show’s history. It’s been very difficult on a lot of bases. But we’ve rallied, we’ve gone again. There have been some amazing weeks on screen, amazing performances. It’s been great to be part of that revolution of the show. A leap forward in time and the new format.”
“So it’s pretty cool and just to catch up with everybody, like working with Charlie Wernham [who plays Robbie] again. A few other faces like Ashley Taylor Dawson [who plays Darren]. It’s been special.”
He went on to praise Hollyoaks fans for their “warm” reception during his time on the soap, adding: “It’s been awesome and the fans have been so special.”
