Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Zak Sutcliffe has spoken out about his character Bobby Costello’s heartbreaking death.

This week, escaped prisoner Bobby got on the wrong side of Jez when he discovered that the serial killer had murdered his social worker Ian.

Jez desperately attempted to keep his crimes under wraps in today’s episode and he brutally killed Bobby in shocking scenes.

Bobby’s death brings to an end Zak’s time on the show, but he exclusively told us he always knew he would only be in the role for a number of weeks.

“It sounds a bit morbid, but I’ve done this job 11 years now, and I’ve yet to die in anything – I’ve been dying to die for years!” he laughed. “I knew beforehand, before accepting the offer, and I was just really excited about it.

“What makes it even more exciting for me is to look in the comments sections online and see people being like ‘I hope Bobby gets away! I’m wishing all the best for Bobby and I hope he’s alright!’ Meanwhile, I know he’s going to get his head bashed in and they’re going to be heartbroken!”

While Waterloo Road favourite Zak previously made a brief guest appearance in Hollyoaks as Cleo McQueen’s patient Tommy Bradshaw in 2021, playing Bobby has allowed him to stretch himself as an actor.

“I’ve been running around all over the place,” he reflected. “The last time I worked with Hollyoaks, I was pretty much strictly delegated to a hospital bed, and I was laid in this hospital bed for the entire shoot.

“And this time round, I’ve literally done tour-de-Hollyoaks! I’ve been running around everywhere like a mad man, it’s great.”

As he says goodbye to Hollyoaks village, Zak has nothing but praise for the co-stars he has worked closely with on the soap.

“Jen Metcalfe [who plays Mercedes] is lovely,” he said. “He’s actually from my home estate so she felt like a little slice of home.

“Jeremy [Sheffield, who plays Jez] was a phenomenal actor, so getting to see his process and all that kind of thing was great. And Sherrie [Hewson, who plays Martha] – queen! A beautiful, icon of a lady, I am in love with that woman. Everybody was just so great.”
