Bachelor Nation fans got to know Kelley Flanagan on Season 24 of “The Bachelor,” and she’s been keeping fans updated with her life on social media ever since.
Last month, Kelley shared that her father was in the hospital due to a severe pneumonia and wasn’t making progress.
A few weeks ago, Kelley shared the heartbreaking news that her dad had passed away.
Now, she’s opening up on the “Almost Famous” podcast about her relationship with her dad, and shared which Bachelor Nation star was there for her during this difficult time.
Kelley explained that it was around Thanksgiving when she found out her dad was unexpectedly hospitalized. She then spent the next three weeks by his side with her other siblings.
“Those three weeks were hard, but also I’m really, really grateful for that,” she shared. “We got to spend precious time with him. We were able to tell him how much we appreciated him and how great he was and just how much we valued him as a father and also as a person.”
Kelley then expressed how special of a person her dad was and reflected on their relationship.
She said, “I truly have never met anyone like him. And I know a lot of people say that… But, like, that man, what he gave us, provided for us… He just had a genius mindset.”
Kelley continued, “He was a smart guy, but… he didn’t have an ego behind him. He was always so kind to literally anyone, so generous. Generous in ways that people don’t even think of.”
In remembering her dad, she shared, “We just keep living through him with a lot of the things he does. Even things that he would get upset about… We just keep trying to keep it super lighthearted, and it helps a little bit.”
Kelley also revealed that fellow Bachelor Nation star Kelsey Weier has been a huge support system for her and her family during this time of grief.
She said, “I wanna give a shout-out, because Kelsey Weier is… truly the greatest human I have met on this entire Earth… She immediately flew in when we had the funeral in Chicago for my dad…That girl came in just like a powerhouse being like, ‘Where can I help? What can I do?’”
Kelley then said that in addition to being there physically, Kelsey has also supported her emotionally.
She stated, “I’ll be on the phone just crying and… I know that I just hide my emotions sometimes or maybe run away from them and she was like, ‘It’s okay, cry it out. Speak about it.’ She’s very, very supportive and sweet, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend.”
We’re so glad Kelsey was there to support her, and we’re thinking of Kelley and her family during this difficult time. They are all in our hearts.
