Bachelor Nation fans first met Katie Thurston on Season 25 of “The Bachelor” and she returned to our screens for Season 17 of “The Bachelorette.”
Katie has been keeping fans updated with her life on social media, and she revealed online last week that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She has been keeping followers up to date with her journey and sharing her experience with her new diagnosis.
This week, Katie took to her Instagram Story to answer fan questions and revealed some new information about her breast cancer diagnosis and living situation.
In response to if she got a second opinion on her treatment plan, Katie shared that she will be getting one in New York.
“I’ll get my second opinion in NYC with @nyphospital and begin chemo later this month,” she said, “Headed to NYC permanently this weekend.”
Another follower asked Katie if she knows what kind of breast cancer she has as well as if she had any other symptoms besides her lump before getting diagnosed.
She replied, “Triple positive invasive ductal carcinoma. TBD on stage. Likely stage 3…[And] nope. My normal self. Just a lump. Even that sentence encompasses how I felt. ‘It’s just a lump.’ Cancer doesn’t discriminate. I probably first felt the lump in August. Don’t do what I did and delay.”
One person then inquired about what the lump felt like as well as if it was ever discovered before by the doctor.
To help share information on the signs and in regard to the lump, Katie said, “Almost like a knot. Kind of like when your body is sore and you have someone massage out a knot in your back. It was like that. Or maybe when you get a weird lump from a bruise. Very similar…Funny enough my old doctor ALWAYS checked me for lumps when I’d go in for my annual pap…But my current [provider] didn’t. So it’s really up to you to continue to do self checks.”
We’re continuing to think of Katie and send love to her and her family during this time.
