Hollyoaks legend Nikki Sanderson teases huge career move after quitting Channel 4 soap
Nikki Sanderson has spoken about her Hollyoaks exit and revealed what's next for her after she quit the Channel 4 soap after almost 13 years in the role of Maxine Minniver
After nearly 13 years on Hollyoaks, Nikki Sanderson is setting her sights on new horizons following her departure from the role of Maxine Minniver.
The 41-year-old actress, whose final scenes aired earlier this week, told MEN: “For myself as Nikki, as an actor, I’ve been acting since I was little girl. I don’t know any different, it’s what I love to do and it’s my passion.”
She continued, adding: “I got into acting because I really enjoy playing different characters and different types of acting.”
Sanderson outlined her reasons for leaving the show, explaining: “For me, being able to act and perform brings me so much happiness and I just felt like after so many years it was maybe time to try a different role or different type of production wherever that might take me.”
Reflecting on her decision, she expressed her mixed emotions: “I will really miss Hollyoaks and it took a lot to make the decision but I’m excited to what the future holds for me.”, reports the Mirror.
Apart from her long stint in Hollyoaks, Sanderson is also widely recognized for her roles as Candice Stowe on Coronation Street from 1999 to 2005 and as Dawn Bellamy in Heartbeat between 2008 and 2009.
Now turning a page, she’s diving into the world of scriptwriting.
Nikki revealed her current focus: “As long as I’m acting and performing I am happy. For me now is actively moving forward and pushing forward to being able to be creative again.”
Regarding her next steps, she said: “My agent is going to be putting me out for castings so hopefully you will see me in something very, very soon.”
In addition to seeking out new acting roles, the star has begun to explore her creativity further through writing: “I’ve also started writing as well because I think you’ve got to keep yourself busy when you’re not working or performing”.
“I’m putting it out to the universe that it’s going to be an incredibly busy, successful year for me and I’m just going to keep thinking positive and looking forward to I do next.”
In heart-wrenching scenes, Hollyoaks viewers saw Maxine depart from the village with her daughter Minnie Minniver after staging her own death, a scheme concocted alongside Dodger Savage, played by Danny Mac.
