Unfair Ending: Neighbours to Leave Our Screens Sooner – Fans Voice Their Anger
Erinsborough fans are bracing for heartbreak once again, as new reports suggest the beloved Aussie soap Neighbours could be wrapping up even earlier than initially expected.
On Thursday, the official Neighbours X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed the devastating update:
“We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025. New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.”
However, while December was publicly named as the show’s resting point, inside sources now hint the farewell could arrive sooner than planned — possibly as early as October or November 2025.
According to a production insider speaking to Digital TV Watch, some behind-the-scenes scheduling changes and contractual limitations may bring forward the final filming dates. “There’s been talk that the curtain could fall earlier than we thought,” the source claimed. “They’re not calling it a ‘cancellation’ outright, but everyone on set knows what this really means.”
This comes as a huge blow to the show’s loyal fanbase, who were already heartbroken when Neighbours was initially cancelled by Channel 5 in 2022 — only to be heroically saved by Amazon and brought back in 2023 under a two-year contract. Now, with Amazon Freevee winding down and Prime Video becoming the new streaming home, the show’s future beyond 2025 has been thrown into uncertainty.
Hope Still Flickers
Cast and crew have remained hopeful, even while acknowledging the uncertain road ahead. Fan-favourite Rebekah Elmaloglou (Terese Willis) recently encouraged viewers to continue championing the series, urging fans to contact Amazon directly and express their love for the show. “Keep doing what you’re doing,” she said during the final leg of the Neighbours 40th Anniversary Tour. “Let Amazon know how much it matters.”
With passionate viewer campaigns and fan petitions once again surfacing online, some hope that the story may not end here — or that Neighbours could return again in the future, just as it miraculously did before.
For now, the show promises to deliver a rollercoaster of dramatic moments, heartfelt goodbyes, and classic Neighbours twists as it enters its final stretch. Viewers are advised to tune in four nights a week on Prime Video (UK/US) and Channel 10 (Australia) as the countdown begins — possibly sooner than expected.
One thing is certain: Neighbours may be leaving our screens, but it will never leave our hearts.
